Our People

Cowguys began with a deep love for ranching and a commitment to quality that has only grown stronger over time. Our rancher, Joseph, (Cosgray farms) started raising his own cattle as a teenager on a small ranch in Texas. After almost a decade, he discovered that the natural, pure beef tallow from his cattle had unexpected benefits beyond the kitchen. Friends who tried his tallow balm began raving about its skin-nourishing properties, especially those with autoimmune skin disorders, and they loved the natural scent. This inspired him to create a line of skincare products that are as high-quality as his beef, made from the same cattle.

Our team is made up of passionate college students from College Station, Texas, who met through Texas A&M’s St. Mary’s. Brought together by our shared values and love for the ranch life, we believe in hard work, faith, and enjoying the simple things in life—like spending evenings by the fire with cattle and holding Bible studies under the Texas stars. It’s this sense of community, care, and tradition that we pour into every product we offer.

Sourcing Locally to Support Farmers: When our supply runs low, we source cattle from nearby farms that adhere to our standard. This allows us to support other local farmers who share our values and commitment to quality. Because we have our own cattle we know how to ensure that their processes align with our own caliber of quality. This collaboration strengthens our local agricultural community and also guarantees that we can maintain a commitment to excellence.

The Science

Tallow is the closest natural match to human sebum, containing saturated and monounsaturated fats that strengthen the skin barrier and lock in moisture. Composed primarily of triglycerides, tallow is easily absorbed by the skin, making it a powerful natural moisturizer. Its fatty acid profile closely mimics human sebum, including stearic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid, all of which support skin health. No synthetic or lab-created substance perfectly matches human sebum as well as tallow.

Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, tallow provides deep nourishment and promotes cellular renewal. Vitamin A supports skin repair and regeneration, Vitamin D helps maintain skin tone and prevent aging, Vitamin E provides antioxidant protection against free radical damage, and Vitamin K may improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, scars, and dark spots.

With its high stearic acid content, tallow reinforces the skin’s natural defense against environmental stressors and locks in moisture. At Cowguys, we’re rancher-owned, and while not all our tallow comes from our own cattle, our firsthand experience gives us a deep understanding of sourcing and rendering. Our Secret

Our tallow balm is one of the most nutrient-dense on the market because we don’t whip it with excess air like other brands. We use only beef suet, a rare, nutrient-rich fat packed with skin benefits. If you’ve ever tried eating liver, you know how strong nutrient-dense fats can smell—that’s why we take the time to naturally remove any odor while keeping all the nutrients intact. Using a slow, all-natural rendering process, we refine our suet in double boilers at precise temperatures, ensuring purity without harsh processing.
